7-18-18 – St. Louis County Department of Public Health sent out a Health Alert to area physicians. This flier was developed by the ATSDR to give health care providers information to help address patients’ concerns related to radiological exposure to contaminants from the Coldwater Creek site. Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Emily Doucette is the point of contact for all physicians. She is reaching out in person to all oncology department chairs in the region (beginning with Christian Hospital Northeast and DePaul Hospital) and having conversations about this issue and the report from the CDC. She has also had several discussions with the CDC and has established a link to involve the CDC in any discussion with physicians that require additional input and advice.

St. Louis County Department of Public Health has told us this just the beginning of these efforts. They will continue to reiterate and hammer home the importance of taking a complete residential and occupational histories to assess exposure and clinical treatment.

Faisal Khan, MD, Director of the St. Louis County Department of Public Health, wrote the following articles in the Washington University St. Louis Institute for Public Health blog and St. Louis Metropolitan Medical Society Magazine. We encourage each person who has concerns relating to their health and possible exposure in the St. Louis region to nuclear weapons waste from the Manhattan Project to print the following articles and give to each of your health care providers.
